Just Back From South Africa

I just finished another trip to South Africa and had a wonderful time. Africa is an amazing place, and South Africa is really spectacular to me.  I envision that I will be going there at least once a year for the rest of my life.  People often ask me why I fly 18 hours one way to Africa.

Would Someone Ask Me to Buy Hope Bonds?

In my last blog, I pointed out that American capitalism is flawed. I made the comment that we had equated freedom with a particular economic order – capitalism. We have not been able to separate our values, freedom, democracy, and equality from a particular economic system.

Change – Building Quality Relationships

Pastor Rick Warren was the guest preacher on January 19, 2009 at this year’s King Day service at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia (Dr. King’s former church). Pastor Warren sent out an email to thirty African American pastors requesting input for his sermon.

Inauguration Day - Only GOD

On inauguration day, I came to work. I watched the inauguration with the staff, a few members and visitors from the community. I was overwhelmed by all that I saw and heard. Never in my lifetime did I expect that I would see an African American president.

What Happens When We Listen

The awesome nature of God was made evident in our worship service this past Sunday. The aftershocks of the service still linger in my heart and spirit. God gave us thirty-three new servants. What an awesome start to the year.
